35 journalists, all together

There are pages, like the one we feature today from La Voz de Galicia, that might look ugly at first sight, but that have a huge journalistic value. In the middle of the debate about the "ugliness" of cities and villages, 35 journalists look for the opinion of several mayors. What we´ve said: great "all together" that proves that from the editorial office it´s possible (and must be done) to lead and coordinate themes that, otherwise, run the risk of being converted into a tiring trickle of minor stories about the same theme.

43 murdereds in the front-page

This week-end the forceful front-pages from various Mexican newspapers made an impact on the country. They reflected the murder of the 43 missing students. We highlight those that put the names and pictures of the deceased students:

It´s not the first time a newspaper honors on its front-page all the deaceased. We recall, for example, the one from Diario de Navarra and another one from Público (a newspaper that no longer exists) after ETA announced its disarmament:

Just a detail to finish with. The murders in Mexico made the sports newspaper Récord forget about its essence, that day, and report the massacre. It´s not the first time a sports newspaper tuns to terrible hot news. A few years ago, for example, Marca  dedicated its front-page to the 11th of March

Variety

We title this entry as "variety" because that´s the link between the examples we´re showing today. Different, but all very accurate ways of telling. Ideal  shows the traffic jams in Granada with an excellent photo gallery:

El Periódico approaches the match between Real Madrid and Barcelona with the player that has played it more times. Xavi writes the captions:

Diario de Navarra informs about the new driving test exam using facts and... testing the readers´ knowledge: 

Las Provincias the trips made by a city council with some simple but conclusive maps:

La Vanguardia tells, thanks to the readers´ collaboration, the story of the first car that was registered in Barcelona:

And El Diario Vasco  faces "the day after" the death of two surfers speaking with experts. Outstanding link between title and picture.

With those who know

We don´t know if it is a bet on continuity or if it´s a coincidence that these stories were published in the last two Sundays. Let´s hope it´s the first option, because these pages from El Diario Vasco approach themes that are very interesting and with good sources. It´s worth reading them.

Ibai and N'Diaye

18th May, 2014. Last match of the season. The event is decisive for Osasuna, a team that is struggling to stay in the league´s first division. The celebration of the first goal scored by the local team causes an avalanche. Among chaos, the figure of a player from the other team (Betis): The Senegalese soccer player Alfred N´Diay. He is carrying in his arms a young supporter of Osasuna, Ibai Cadena. Osasuna didn´t stay in the first division. But that was the picture Spaniards saw. This Sunday, the soccer player was coming back to Pamplona... The story, in  Diario de Navarra.

In all demonstrations

His name is Pere Cuadrado. He´s 67 years old. He is from Barcelona. He is a regular participant in all demonstrations organized by "social groups". He has been fined for using a handheld megaphone to protest. We discover his story in El Periódico. A story with follow-up work.

A mockup... and its story

 We kept a double-page from Las Provincias because we liked the contents and its design. When we asked the newspaper for the page, we got a surprise. Beatriz de Zúñiga, designer, also sent us a "making of" that she published in her twitter account.
