The ones who arrive... and those who don´t.

Emigration: the ones who arrived and those who died in the attempt to reach our countries. Without any doubt, its one of the biggest issues in this century. We have read two good reports in Hoy and in Diario de Noticias. To think about it...

Days before, Diario de Noticias had published another good report but very different: young athletes from Navarra that live in the US thanks to sports.

Immediate reaction

To go a step ahead and doing it all in the same day, is a symptom of good journalism. We have seen two good examples in Diario De Navarra. The first one, the story of a fire in an appartment brings with it excellent, useful information. In the second example, an interesting local perspective is added to one of the main stories of the day.

Telling stories with plenty of facts

Very often, stories with plenty of facts reach editorial departments. Sometimes, journalists themselves plan stories in which facts are the essence. Narrating them efficiently is crucial. We are going to see three cases from El Diario Vasco, Diario de Navarra, El Norte de Castilla and Las Provincias:

Superb

Maybe because they appear at the right moment, maybe because they are just superb, they are our weakness. We are talking about the graphics from El Correo. We are fans  of the "traditional" ones, like the two first, but also of the "new" ones, like the last one.

Listín Diario

Last week we showed pages from a sports newspaper from Costa Rica. Today we are pointing out some recent pages from a big Dominican newspaper: Listín Diario. It is not the newspaper with the biggest print run (the newspaper with the biggest print run, for years now, is Diario Libre, distributed for free) but it is the most important in the country.  We are going to show some pages —also from the Society section, the most popular in many newspapers— and other pages from series:

It could be a simple piece of news, but we liked the step “ahead”: Felipe González is… one more. The effort to go further and to give a visual perspective is outstanding journalism.

The priest and the President

We have read in La Rioja three facts that have caught our attention. The first one has the honor of “discovering” the piece of news. The second one goes to the place and talks to a wide range of sources. The third one interviews the protagonist. Good follow-up work.
